For his debut solo album, Jonathan has chosen a programme of works by leading contemporary Finnish composers. Alongside Kalevi Aho’s Cello Sonata with Finnish pianist Johannes Piirto, the recording features Sustained, a new work commissioned for the album by Sauli Zinovjev. The album also includes Cecilia Damström’s Aveo, Outi Tarkiainen’s Sanasi, kiveen uponneet, Sebastian Fagerlund’s Recitativo, and Lauri Porra’s We Lie Down to Get Up Again. Together, these works reflect the breadth and individuality of contemporary Finnish composition and Jonathan’s close engagement with music of our time.
